The results you can get from doming a sticker are amazing when it is done correctly. Getting that perfect dome can sometimes be challenging, so we have some troubleshooting tips to help you out.
When I dome my surfaces, they look perfect but once they have set the surfaces are uneven.
The number one reason for resin to be imperfect is bubbles! Bubbles can rise to the surface, while the resin is still in the liquid form after being poured. To avoid this, we suggest using either a toothpick to carefully pop the bubbles as they rise or using a small flame (like a BBQ lighter), hovered over the resin. Using this method, the heat will draw the bubble to the surface and pop them. Make sure to keep the flame moving and not to hover over one place for too long. Also keep a fair distance from your actual stickers as you do not want to burn them.
The second reason for imperfect doming is dust. You want to make sure you are in a dust free environment when pouring your resin. This will help keep your resin clean and no unexpected dirt or other particles will be caught in the curing process. We recommend using a curing box with base levelling tray. These are available in our starter kits on our website. Another thing to remember is keeping your work stable. Always make sure that your surface that you are working on is level and clean. This will help with keeping your resin level and stop if from curing unevenly make it feel lumpy.
What is the optimum environment for doming?
Polyurethane resin likes the hot and dry weather. Make sure you are doming in a clean, warm, and dry area for the best possible outcomes. If you are looking for the exact temperature the area should be around 25°C with the humidity less than 35%.
How long should it take to cure my doming resin?
Once your resin is poured and provided you have optimal room temperature your resin should be cured in 24 hours. Your initial gel time is only 45 minutes so you will need to work fast when using this product. There are cases where you can remove the domed sticker from the backing before the full curing process has happened, but it is not recommended.
What is the shelf life for these resin cartridges?
If the product is still vacuum sealed in its original packaging, it should Liquid Lens™ guarantees a full 12-month shelf life from the date of manufacture.
Is there a way that I can calculate how much resin I need for a job?
Absolutely, there is. The standard calculation that is used is based on 1ml of resin covers a sticker approximately 25x25mm area. For example if you have a sticker that is 75x25mm you would need to use 3ml of resin to complete the job.
