You have finished creating your masterpiece and now you are ready to print. How do you tell your printer where to cut design? The answer is simple, Versaworks uses Spot Colours to identify where to cut your designs.
If you are using Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw the colour swatches are installed as a part of the Versaworks installation in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\VersaWorks\Swatch
Once you have loaded Swatches into your colour pallet, select the CutContour spot colour and create your shape using outlines only, no fill. Any shapes or lines using this colour will be read via your printer and cut accordingly. It is a good idea to set you lines to 0.25 thickness so you can still see your design underneath.
If you are using different design software other than the ones mentioned above, you will need to create a Spot Colour called CutContour. It is important to use this name as your printer knows this command and reads your artwork to know where to cut.
You now have your stickers set up with cutlines. How do you know if you have done it correctly? Aside from sending to your printer that is.
Once you’ve loaded your artwork into Versaworks you should see two indicators that you have set up your cutlines correctly. The first one will be under Special Items. You will see an A with a square around it, giving you the indication that there are some system colours picked up by your rip software. In this case the “A” will stand for cut lines.
Double click on your job to open the settings window. Your cutlines will appear as dotted lines. We refer to these lines as marching ants, because the lines look like they are moving around your artwork.
If you see marching ants on your artwork, you will know that your cut lines have been set correctly. You are now safe to send your artwork to the printer.
