VERSAWORKS - Job Grouping Feature
The Multiple Job Grouping feature in Versaworks allows you to easily print a multi layered job without having to go back and forth to the printer in between each layer.
You can create some great textures and effects while printing on a UV printer. But you may be wondering, how can I do this without printing out each section and rewinding the media and starting the next part. Well, this is where your artwork LAYERS will come in handy. All you do is set your artwork using one layer per print action. For example, say you are printing a sticker that you would like an embossed effect with a CMYK Print and then a gloss overlay and cut. I create each layer in the order of layers as if it were the sticker on the screen. The first layer I want to print being the bottom layer or last in the list. In the pic above my Emboss is the first action I want to do. I then save each printed effect as an individual PDF for printing. A good tip for saving your files is to number them in the order of which you would like to print them in. E.g., #1 will be the first layer and #2 will be the next layer & so on.
Once you have your three pdf’s ready open them into the right print Queue in Versaworks. Check they are listed in number order, if not you can click and drag them into the right order
Now that you have all your files in the correct order you can select which settings you require for each layer like normal. It’s important to make sure that when doing this layered work that you have the selected the Return to origin after print option so you can print the next layer exactly over the first. On the last layer untick the option so then next job can be printed on fresh media and not over the top of all your hard work.
The final step before hitting print is the reason you all started reading this article, Multiple Job Grouping. Select all three layers and right click. Select Multiple Job Grouping from the menu and then it will create one print job from your three individual jobs. Then you can RIP your job for printing and continue your regular print process. The benefits of this is you hit print once and it will work through the layers until it is completed.
When the printing is completed, you can save the print files with their settings included to your computer or hard drive for next time. This way next time this print job comes up you can import the saved print files into VersaWorks, and everything will be set up ready to RIP and Print.
