System Spot Colours
System Spot Colours are used in Versaworks to perform certain functions when printing jobs with Versaworks.
The most common System Spot Colour is the CutContour. It displays on your screen a 100% Magenta in colour, but when you load your artwork into VW it recognises these lines as cut lines and won’t print but cut them instead.
The Roland Spot colours are loaded into a folder when you install Versaworks. To find their location open an Explorer window on your PC and navigate to:
C:\Program Files\VersaWorks\Swatch
* Assumes you installed to the c: drive on your PC
You will see two folders listed. One for Corel Draw and One for Illustrator.
Loading into Corel Draw;
With Corel open click: Window > Color Palettes > Open Palette…
Then navigate to:
C:\Program Files\VersaWorks\Swatch\CorelDraw
and open the userlinks file.
That will open a new colour palette (as per image above right) with several Roland Spot colours. The first Magenta one is the CutContour spot colour. If you hover your mouse over the colour it will highlight the CutContour name. You can see the little dot on the bottom left of the square of colour to show it is a spot colour.
Use this colour with a hairline thickness in your artwork where you want your cutlines to be. When your artwork is imported into Versaworks it will show a dotted moving line, often called the “marching ants” where the cutlines will be. This is a good check to see if you have them in the correct place and that the spot colour has been recognised.
Loading into Adobe Illustrator;
Make sure in Illustrator your Swatches window is open. If it’s not, click on the Windows menu and then click the Swatches options.
The Swatches panel should be open now which will look like the image below.
At the bottom left of this is a Swatch Libraries Menu button. Click on that and then near the bottom select Other Libraries. On the next popup window navigate to the folder:
C:\Program Files\VersaWorks\Swatch\Illustrator
And then open the Roland Versaworks library. When open it will look like the below image.
You can see six spot colours and the first pink one is the CutContour colour. If you hover your mouse over the colour you will see the name highlighted. Use this colour with for cutlines with a 0.25 weight. When your artwork is imported into Versaworks it will show a dotted moving line, often called the “marching ants” where the cutlines will be. This is a good check to see if you have them in the correct place and that the spot colour has been recognised.
The other System Spot Colours are:
